Film Techniques
There were many film technique used in the documentary HOME.
The angle, pace and direction of the camera varied on the mood of th subject being discussed on screen.
Since this documentary was shot almost entirely with aerial views from an aircraft, there were few angles because the subject was much larger than humans, but mountains, coastal regions, glaciers, etc.
Below are different examples of angles, transitioins, and techniques used in the documentary.

Transitions
Since the motion of the video is very slow for the most part, with the reason being to capture the essence of diversity and linkage between all biotic and abiotic elements of the Earth. A theme was apparent from the beginning of the documentary. We found that the use of colour-blocking and shade transitioning were common. This means that to move forwards into a new topic of the video, the director uses elements and objects of the same shade that relate (which are all in linkage) to transition. This is effective because it also conveys the sense of the viewer that the message of the video is more pronounced: that there is a universal cycle and diversity which involves all biotic and abiotic elements of the Earth.
- Another use of transitions used by the director in the documentary hope is the transition of music and words solo or in conjunction with one another.
Some examples of these transitions are: - When the narrator spoke about how blue green algae was crucial for life on Earth and our sustainability, as well as its powers of converting power from the sunlight and transforming it into nutrients and energy, the music became were dramatic and loud. This worked to show that this fact was especially important.
- As the narrator described the vitality of the linkage between the water, mollusks, crustaceans and our ever-changing water system, the music began to build in the background until it was a fully onchestrated sound that bellowed. This is symbolic of the Earth's linkage to everything and being in unison with itself and the harmony of the orchestra - how it must work together to function properly, effectively and efficiently.
- The narrator spoke of the gradual transition of the soil and humus transformation, while the slide and picture faded gradually. The narrator and director used key words to match the smooth transition of film.
So Many Techniques!
. One of the most unique film techniques that were presented in
the documentary was the fact that the documentary was only from aerial view. All
the footage of earth was taking from above it. This supported the director’s
argument because it showed directly the impact that humans have on the earth. By
having only aerial shots, we as viewers were able to see the differences in the
world caused by humans clearly. This had much impact on the documentary because
it again allowed us to see the changes of our planet in a different view than
what we are used to and it also made us feel like we were on a trip around the
planet. Another film technique that was used was the music. For the beautiful,
stunning pictures to show how the world was and in some spots, without
industries, still are, the music was very peaceful and calm.
